The project- what is planned

The final building complex will house a 700 seat auditorium, facilities for all our chilldren and youth programmes including a gymnasium, a small indoor playground, a 200 seat cafeteria with commercial kitchen, a smaller chapel for weddings and funerals, and a staff and administrative office block. We are also planning a pre-school which will meet an identified need in the surrounding community.

Outside we will have ample car parking, playing fields and extensive landscaping to preserve and enhance the much loved semi-rural surrounding. It is also planned to build a modest care-taker’s residence on the grounds.

A great asset for DCBC and the community

As indicated by the breadth of the facilities being incorporated into this design, this will be a multifunctional building able to accommodate a wide range of purposes and activities, including weddings, funerals, conferences, school events, some sports and many other gatherings. It is our intention that the new building could be fully utilised 7 days a week by both church and community groups.

There are many great features.

  • Children and youth are a huge part of DCBC and the provision of multiple flexible sized rooms, a gymnasium and outside playing fields will provide excellent spaces for them.
  • Younger children will also be very well served with the pre-school facilities, and the playground- just where parents need it- next to the cafeteria.
  • The auditorium is being acoustically designed and will have quality sound and lighting systems making it an ideal venue for community concerts and stage events.
  • The commercial kitchen and dedicated cafeteria space will be able to cater for casual and special occasions.
  • The design allows for several different groups to use the facilities at the same time.

We are excited about this building’s potential and believe it will be a great asset for DCBC and Dunedin.

This year we start stage 1 (read on for more details).
