Impacting our City & Beyond

As followers of Jesus, we, as a church, are committed to being involved in the mission he was and is involved in. We exist to be a church to share the hope of Jesus with those who are without hope, who are hurting and vulnerable both in our own city and right around the world.

Our call is to equip people for Jesus’ mission, and send them out as the Lord leads to serve, proclaim, and make disciples of Jesus. This call goes right back to our roots as a church. In the 19th century, DCBC sent the first Baptist missionaries to go beyond New Zealand and helped establish the Baptist Missionary Society.

The pioneering and radical mission initiatives of our founders inspires us, as a church, to keep moving out taking new, creative and bold initiatives to proclaim the wonderful hope of the message of Jesus, both within our own community and beyond our borders.

Our mission call as a church is summed up in two verses that the church adopted as its mission statement in 1989:
"For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your descendants will possess the nations and will settle the desolate towns."
- Isaiah 54:2-3

Mission to our City

We recognise that the call of Jesus to share and serve him with others is to all followers of Jesus. As a church we aim to stand beside, equip and support each person do that in their daily lives, both at home and in their work situations.  Outside of this there are lots of opportunities for service for ministry and mission in our own church and local community.    And we are praying for new mission initiatives to our city where the love and hope of Jesus is communicated to those in need.

Lookout Music is a fun, interactive, church-based music group for preschool children and their parents or primary caregivers.  We meet during school-term on Tuesdays, 10.00 -11:30am, at Dunedin City Baptist Church, Concord.

Sessions are designed to encourage an enjoyment of music in children, and development of both music and movement skills.
The half-hour music session is followed by morning tea for both caregivers and children, and a playtime for the children.  This is a valuable time of connection and friendship-building for all ages.

Musselburgh Music

Musselburgh Music is a DCBC community outreach held in partnership with Musselburgh Baptist Church. Every Monday morning during term time two interactive music sessions are held back-to-back, with a very busy morning tea in the middle.

The team desires to effectively connect in friendship with each family, provide a caring community of support and to pray regularly for each person that comes.

The 'Way Up' Group provides support and friendship for men and women who have been struggling with mental illness, who want to grow in their relationship with Jesus. The group meets monthly for Sunday lunch after church.

A growing number of men meet regularly on a Sunday evening. The women's group currently meets monthly for Bible study and a cuppa.

Champions

Champions is a large group presentation of 'Bible in Schools' at Green Island School. The lessons are high-energy, incorporating songs, games, stories and heaps of fun every Tuesday lunchtime during term time.
